No Country For Old Men Review
And the award for "Creepiest Actor of All Time" goes to...
"drum roll"
Javier Bardem, for his portrayal of Anton Chigurh, in "No Country For Old Men," one of the best films of 2007.
After seeing the disaster that was "American Gangster," it's such a relief to see such a thrilling, masterpiece like this. The whole way through watching this movie, I was entralled by the amazing performances of Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, and creepy-as-hell Javier Bardem. I could see this being nominated, for and possibly winning, various Oscars.
And remember;
Stay away from American Gangsters. They just might steal 2 and a half hours of your life.

American Gangster Review
About one year ago, there was a movie that was released, with big name celebrities, a famous director, and moderately good critical acclaim. I saw that movie, and it was forever placed into my bottom five of "Worst Movies Ever."
That movie was "Babel," and now, in November 2007, I'm feeling a bit of deja vu.
Before the writing of this review, I have looked at various other reviews from such sources as the NY Times, and Ebert and Roeper, and it has become apparent that the only way that they could have given these reviews is that they saw a different movie. They keep talking about all these deeper messages that they were gathering from the movie, and to be frank, none of that was clear in the movie.
Not to be arrogant, but I'm not a stupid person. Some sort of deeper message in the movie couldn't just fly above my head like that. What I saw, was two and a half hours of boredom, boredom, naked black chicks, a bit more boredom, boredom, a cameo by "Young Frankenstein" star Roger Bart, a moderately interesting shooting scene, boredom, and finally, a bad ending.
You can bash me all you want, movie lovers, but I am telling you all;
American Gangster is the 3rd worst movie EVER!!
Right above Babel, and Mr. Woodcock.

Strike, Strike, and More Strike......
Since its really late, and I'm way too lazy, I'm not posting the links to thee latest strike info.
It's all on Playbill.com, and places like that.
-In the mean time, for the sake of coolness, here's a list of some really good cast recordings you should get, and why;
Sweeney Todd (2005 Revival): I've always debated with myself whether reduced orchestrations are better than full ones. In some cases, Sunday in the Park with George, a large orchestra sounds beautiful. A great example of how a reduced orchestra sounds better than the original is the 2005 Tony winning Production of Sweeney Todd. As well as having an amazing cast, the Tony winning orchestrations sound fantastic!!!
Hello Again: If it weren't for Ol' JRB, Michael John Lachiusa would be the heir to the Sondheim Throne. Of all the shows that Lachiusa has written music for, this score always creeps the hell out of me, in a good way. This tale of sex throughout the twentieth century contains one of the most beautiful scores not written for the Broadway stage.
In Trousers: If there was a contest for "Craziest Lyrics by a Theatrical Composer," William Finn would win hands down. This show is the predecessor to the two Falsettos shows, that eventually transferred to Broadway, and won Finn two Tonys. With extremely catchy music, and screwed-up-as-hell lyrics, In Trousers is sure to drive you up the wall.
Floyd Collins: Just so you all know, I'm not really a fan of the "Golden Age" Composers, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner and Loewe, those guys. In fact, I think that the "New Age" Composers are even better then those old timers, no disrespect. Adam Guettel, who coincidentally is Richard Rodgers' grandson, gives us a lush beautiful score here, with Floyd Collins, which can be described as "Sondheim meets Bluegrass."
Both Recordings of Assassins: Assassins is probably in my Top 10 of Best Sondheim Scores, which I'll blog about in the near future. It is an extremely politically-incorrect depiction of the various Presidential Assassins. Now, the original 1991 Cast recording has "kinda" better orchestrations, while the 2004 "revival" Cast Recording has a much better cast, including Michael Cerveris, and Marc Kudisch, aka The Greastest B'Way Actor of All Time.
Caroline, Or Change: Thank G-d this whole show has been preserved for future generations to hear the most thrilling Tony-losing score of all time!! Unfortunately, I didn't see this most probably amazing show, but, a boy can dream......
Jerry Springer: The Opera: This doesn't even need an explanation. Get it NOW!!!!
Adios, and Happy Turkey Day!!

BROADWAY CANCELLED THROUGH NOV. 25!!!
The Worst News EVER!!!
Could someone try and explain to me why the union doesn't want to compromise? From what I understand, it's the union who isn't trying to settle this fairly.
If this isn't true, please tell em what the hell is going on!!
Even thought this is strengthening Off-Broadway:
STOP THE MADNESS!!!

Beowulf Review!!
Meh.
It was okay, nothing to brag about. The animation was solid, but the dialogue was a bit TOO cheesy. Shwatever.
-I've just recently heard about the whole "2 Girls 1 Cup" phenomenon. Its pretty crazy when videos of the REACTIONS of the video are more popular than the ACTUAL video!!
Have fun with that, America!

TWO REVIEWS!!!!
A movie, and theater review.
-Before The Devil Knows You're Dead
All I can say is WOW!!
This is such an amazing film. The cast is amazing, even though Marisa Tomei is naked for 2/3 of the movie.
SEE THIS MOVIE NOW!!
-Young Frankenstein
This was a great experience at the theatre. While not the best show I've seen, it' a lot of fun. Try and get it for cheap tickets. It's good, but it's not worth $400.
Christopher Fitzgerald is the stand out for me in the show. He is hilarious as Igor.
There were a lot of unnecessary choreographic moments throughout the show, but "Puttin' On the Ritz" was the best number in the entire show!!!
If you can get cheap tickets, see this show. If not, don't.
-The strike is still on!!!
Please, let's stop this madness!!!

STAGEHANDS STRIKE!!!
This is the moment we've all been dreading.
The stagehands have gone on strike, and all but 8 Broadway shows are closed.
As much as I am saddened by the shutting down of these shows, I fully support the stagehands and their plight.
Let's hope this doesn't go on for TOO long.....

Spelling Bee is Closing!!!!!!!
Very sad news indeed.
This is such a wonderful show, and I urge you all to go see it before it departs the Great White Way.

Broadway News: November 5 2007
Rock 'n' Roll, the new Tom Stoppard play, has received very good reviews as of my knowledge. Although I said that it might be a bit boring/too intellectual for some people, it might appear otherwise.
I hope that everyone involved with this show has a healthy run. So yeah.
-"The Glorious Ones," the new Ahrens & Flaherty musical, opens tonight!!!
I will be seeing it in December, so full report then.
-This Sunday, I'm Young Frankenstein-ing it up!! I'm the best kind of excited!!!!

Daylight Savings!
The clocks have been sent One hour back!!!!
(chaos ensues.)
My sources, these guys, tell me that the dreaded Bee Movie should NOT be in the top of the box office. While I haven't seen it, and it has over 50% good reviews, it still does NOT look like a good movie.
For a good film, that happens to be animated, see Ratatouille.
-I recently saw the two-in-one film Grindhouse. Very good. Planet Terror is quite superior to Death Proof, but still a fine piece of cinema.
-Now we're within the two month waiting point for the Sweeney Todd film!!!!!!
For the love of G-d people, GO see this movie on opening weekend!!!!!
Make it the #1 grossing movie musical of all time!!!!!
On December 21, 22, 0r 23, don't see Walk Hard, National Treasure 2, or P.S, I Love You!!!
See Sweeney!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Only a week 'til I'm seeing "Young Frankenstein."
Don't ask me why I put some things in quotes and not other things. Even I don't know why.
-Based on the reviews for Olde Frankenstein, I don't know if it's gonna run through December, which is when I booked tickets for!!!
Worried and such!!
-Wow, this is a really long post. And it's like 1/2 in the morning.
When I say 1/2, I mean it's supposed to be 2, but it's actually 1.
Not half in the morning.
Night night cyber peeps.
